Five Feet Apart - dir. Justin Baldoni

*spoilers*

This is the sort of film that you know exactly what's going to happen when you read the blurb. Which is true. But alongside that, it did a lot of stuff that I really didn't expect. So props to it for that!

The dying girl with survivor's guilt. Her dead sister, dead best friend, dead boyfriend. V poetic.

Yeno what I hated though. Why the heckin whoosh was she obsessed with babies?? Like I get there's probably a thing there to do with communicating your love to babies through touch and innocence and life and whatever. But did no one else find it really weird that she just spent her time staring at people's newborns??? If that was a guy people would be creeped out and you can't convince me otherwise. Like, Barb thinks it's reasonable that she's fallen asleep in baby room or whatever it's official name is, meaning it's probably happened before. I find that really odd!!!!!!

Beyond that, great film, v sad, v entertaining.

April and May Watching Recommendations

Lockdown has been a great opportunity to spend time watching loads of random crap, which has been great! Here's a few of my favourite things I've watched over the past two months, sometimes for the first time, and some of my faves. In no particular order… Hollywood - created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan 8/10 - Netflix This show said gay rights. I don’t know what I was expecting when I started watching it, but oh my god I love it. It does unfortunately feature Darren Criss, who I’ve recently discovered that I don’t stan. LGBT representation (and representation in general) in film and TV is so important! Representation allows people to see characters they can relate to, it can create role models, and allow people to understand themselves better, or feel less alone. Representation can also be really effective in breaking down stigma! And of course, realistic content show reflect real life!! Me and Earl and The Dying Girl - dir. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon

I did not expect this film to be so heartbreaking. Which is really odd given its title. I guess I just figured it's predictability takes away from its impact. I was incorrect. I watched this film in three sittings, which in an odd way, I think made it better. I bloody loved that it wasn't a love story. And of course, I loved the terrible film references. I think the squirels at the end were surprisingly beautiful, and I think she really suited the name Rachel. The whole premise and the way it was presented was very John Green and cringey, but I've decided that teen films should be cringey. Because so are teens. My Rating: 7/10 I'll probably watch this again, and maybe read the book
